Georgina and Artie
At 40 weeks and 5 days I was very ready for my baby to make his exit. I remember it being a really surreal time, but I felt so calm and prepared. Even excited, especially after completing my Hypnobirthing course with Katie.
I had two days of inconsistent mild to moderate surges. The surges came and went every 10-20 minutes. I went on long walks and even went out for lunch with my mum. Little did I know I would be holding my baby that night.
My partner came home from work and we had a nice evening cooking dinner together. He knew from taking part in the course that I wanted a calm atmosphere and to try and get the oxytocin flowing. He told me once the baby was born that he was jumping up and down petrified inside but he knew not to get himself or me worked up.
At 11pm that day my surges very quickly geared up and I went straight into 1 minute surges every 3 minutes. Laurie wanted to go to the hospital but I felt like I was in control and wanted to stay at home as long as possible. We put on the fire and I laboured in the front room with laurie rubbing my back and helping me breath through the surges. I have such lovely memories of that moment. It makes me feel very emotional when I look back at how special that was for both of us.
I finally agreed to go to the hospital, listening to my MP3s on the way in the car really helped me stay focused - it was not a fun journey. After an hour of being at the hospital I had my baby.
I was told the babies heart rate had dropped and had a few doctors run in the room in a panic but it was because he was about to be born so it was a false alarm. The doctors didn’t expect it to all happen so quickly. I wasn’t ever stressed, I stayed in the zone.
I did it all through breathing and practising my Hypnobirthing. I am forever grateful for the headspace Katie got me into. It’s amazing what us women can do. Next time I would love a home birth, dare I say I’m even a bit excited about it.
